Fifteen years ago I purchased a 154 Leyland Tractor. I know little about tractors and this was a gamble for me.
The tractor had 400 hours on it and has served me well over the years. Does anyone know what the life expectancy of this model tractor is. The machine now has almost 2000 hours, most of the work has been light duty such as snow, dirt, and firewood removal. I also have a growing concern of part availability.
Is anyone aware of a parts supplier in Michigan that still deals in Leyland equipment? Also most of the electronic components are a Lucas brand. Is there some type of conversion chart between British Cars and Leyland Tractors? I would appreciate any information on Leyland tractors including history. Is any form of this tractor still being made? Hi, I found this post on the archives so if I'm duplicating anything I'm sorry. The 154 started out as the Nuffield B.M.C.
Mini tractor model 9/16. 9 forward gears 16hp. The engine is a BMC 'A'series derived 948cc diesel or petrol(gasoline). The 9/16 was very underpowered so a 1500cc diesel was introduced and became known as the 4/25. When Nuffield, BMC, Austin, Morris and whoever amalgamated to become Leyland the 9/16 was dropped and the mini tractor was rebadged 154. Parts for the 154 are readily available but the 9/16 is getting hard to find engine parts for.
Visit my homepage to find out about my 9/16. Check out these sites for online manuals and Leyland/Nuffield info Good luck Simon. The tractor should last as long as any other 6-8000hrs if well serviced maybe a lot more. The tractor was designed by Harry Ferguson Research Ltd for Nuffield hence the T20 look.
As i understand it they are being produced in India by the `million` the engine is a dieselised version of the Austin Mini car so parts should be common. There are Leyland discussion forums on the internet unfortunately i cant find the url, They should be able to help with spares suppliers. Bits like seals, bearings, ball joints electrical and fuel system and clutches are likely to be made by outside suppliers and should be available from specialists in each product type. Just a matter of searching the phone book.
