It depends on the nature of the hazards you're likely to encounter where you play. I have a Golden Retriever and a Disc Gator, and think they complement each other more than they overlap. Golden Retriever: PROS: light & easy to carry, great range, better when you can see the disc, but you can try bilnd attempts in the general area (I've had limited succes that way) CONS: Only good for water, hard to use where there's submerged rocks, sticks, brush. But nothing beats a GR for a discs on the bottom of a pond/river, ifthe bottom's relatively smooth. Rosemount Engineering Assistant Software on this page.
Dct3 / Dct4 Calculator 5.4 there. Once I got the hook end figured out, how to 'grab' with it instead of pushing or scooping my disc, everything worked out. Prince Megahit Game here. It is super light weight, so I barely notice it. The directions say not to use it like a 'fishing pole', rather lock on to your disc and pull it towards you.
Disc Gator: PROS: good for trees, thorns, fences, water - can work where there are submerged obstacles. CONS: bulkier (I elect to keep mine in the car), limited range, you absolutely must be able to see the disc.
